ITV's showing of winners press conference6/9/2008 9:22:45 AM

Why did ITV only show Kubica's comments on the race, and not the second
and third place guy, especially as the third place guy (David Couthard)
is British, and he hasn't seen the podium in a looong time? Must ITV be
that blatant on their love of only Lewis.

We did not need to hear the talking heads "expert" opinion that Lewis was
"unsighted", only to get the tape delayed clip of the press conference.

IIRC the football was on, they don't show the whole aftermath of a
race if it's been delayed or there's some other popular sporting
event on straight afterwards.

We don't need to hear the "Lewis is on telly, wah wah wah" broken
record yet again either.

They showed all three in the replay. They only showed Kubica live
because they had to move immediately to the live football (as per their
contract with FIFA) so there was no time to show the other two.

No, no, no!

That doesn't fit with the theory that ITV only loves Lewis!

They had enough time to show fuckwit and blunder opine for a while on wot
the drivers had or hadn't done in the race when I too wanted to hear the
rest of the conference, especially DC. I wasn't prepared to stay up until 1
am to hear it though. If the race had overrun they'd have stayed with it.
Why not for the press conference?

No, Coronation Street was on directly after the F1, the football was on BBC.

So, they either miss the end of the press conference, or piss off thousands
(millions) of old biddies.. ;-)
As they are losing F1 at the end of the season, I don't suppose they give a
toss about us F1 fans anymore

Come on - fair's fair.

They'll bump almost _anything_ for Coronation Street except football.
Even then, they'll reschedule Corrie straight after unlike most shows
which they'll simply cancel or postpone for another week.

I doubt it's got anything to do with losing F1, and I am 100% certain it
has nothing to do with Hamilton not being involved - it's just that ITV
knows where its advertising revenue comes from and what it is (and
isn't) contractually obliged to show. It's exactly the same reason it
has been (at times) very poor about qualifying.

I also suspect this is a major part of why BBC got the contract. (I'm
also hoping that part of that is F1 in HD...please, please, please!)

Ah right, I thought it was something of earth-shattering impotence
(not a tyop), either corrie, eastenders, play school or sommat like
that.

I did wonder if that was what lead to them covering the "Max wins the
vote" story in slightly more of a critical manner than I'd expected.

True but it's quite often that they do that, and it is annoying that
they get the pundits on but not the drivers press conference, but it's
not because of Lewis that they do that as some suggested, they've
pretty much always chopped off the press conference when pressed for
time.

No footy on ITV yesterday, there was on the BBC, but I doubt that FIFA can
make a contract that says you can't show a sporting event on your channel if
there's footy on another channel - can they?

I really doubt ITV would want footy on a Sunday evening, given the Corry
omnibus, and the outrage if it's delayed .02ms

These days it's very unusual for Corrie to be on a Sunday night.

There have only been a few times since the start of the year when ITV1
revamped their line-up for that evening, to make way for Celebrity ice
skating, when it has appeared. Usually then it's because the Monday
night's episodes aren't being shown which is what is happening this week
thanks to the football.

So really it's unfair to blame Corrie & its fans this time.

Not only a retard, but a deaf one too.
ITV ran out of time and explained the complete conference would be shown
in the highlights show.

LH didn't win, so you've why bring him into it?

As the press conference is the very last event, it would be chopped.

Golly! I never knew that...I thought that once Corry dug in it was harder
to remove than a headcold, and (IMO) about as pleasant...

Ah well, that's an improvement, provided they haven't dug out an ouija board

Personally I always find press conference boring and repetitive.
Drivers don't make good broadcasters (with one or two notable
exceptions).
I'd much rather hear the views of men like Pat Symonds or Mike
Gascoigne.

That would be a lie, wouldn't it Paul?
Think they would have skipped Lewis had he come third?

People will stop harping about the Lewis show when it stops. So don't
complain about the complaints - that's just the symptom.

They did the same thing on Fox network (they had 15 mins left on the schedule, nothing pressing to
switch to another program).
Surprised to hear that ITV had the same deal !

So why did they waste time with 2 gas-bags? Your definition
of 'immediately' is evidently not congruent to anyone else's
(apart from ITV's perhaps).
