Moleskin is an adhesive backed fabric. You can get it in the foot care section of your pharmacy or supermarket.

even on hd you maybe able to get away with an exposed lav. placed low down on the torso (near the navel) it will be framed out in the cu. if it's just the head of the capsule between the buttons or out of the fob/watch pocket and is the same colour you can ask wardrobe and camera if they can see it on the monitor. not a great placement if waistcoat wearer is seated at a table or carrying anything across themselves.
moleskin and other foot comfort products available from a pharmacy can be useful, like the foam patches people put round corns or better still the silicon rubber patches that people use on blisters. fleece material could be used too. if the waistcoat is silk or silk lined you could be onto a hiding to nothing. some silks are really noisy.

I recommend hiding the lav. in plain sight.
How about a white BUTTON MIC. or PIN MIC., from Ricksonix.com , replacing one of the buttons on the cooks's waistcoat? Of, if you can get away with a small badge or emblem on the waistcoat, than works with the Pin Mic. also.
Or a white Countryman B6, also in plain sight? The B6 is so tiny you can mount it in a tiny hole in the fabric, stitching it in place with white thread, and not see it.
